An exciting opportunity is available in Canada’s North. As members of the Yellowknife team these positions are responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution system, equipment and company facilities in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures, the Electrical Protection Act and other regulatory requirements. Northland is presently converting its distribution system from 5kV to 25kV. This project is expected to be ongoing through 2012. Much of the conversion work is being accomplished using live line techniques which provide some exciting and challenging learning opportunities for line personnel.

The successful candidates will be required to do service work on an as-required basis and provide after hours standby. In addition, the successful candidates will be required to manage construction projects as assigned and will be expected to reside within the recognized boundaries of Yellowknife. Very little travel is involved for line personnel which greatly contributes to the quality of life for staff. Yellowknife is the capital city of the Northwest Territories and as such offers all of the amenities of a southern Canada community.

Yellowknife is a designated community and full relocation as well as a comprehensive northern benefits package will be provided, including:
•Northern Allowance - $600 per month plus 5% of base monthly salary.
•Community Skills Premium – 10% of base salary paid semi-annually.
•Annual Vacation - additional 5 vacation days for North of 60 positions, plus 2 days of travel time.
•Vacation Travel Expenses - annual reimbursement of travel expenses for employees and dependents, to a family maximum of $2,500 towards return airfare to any destination.

Qualifications:
The successful candidates for these positions must hold:
•A valid Journeyman Power Lineman Certificate. Consideration will be given to 3rd or 4th year apprentices who have completed their technical training requirements and are close to obtaining their journeyman status.
•A valid Class 1 Vehicle Operator’s License with air endorsement.
•A valid First Aid Certificate.

Other qualifications include:

•Distribution operation, construction and maintenance knowledge and skills.
•Safe work skills including knowledge of safe work and job planning procedures.
•Strong organizational and project management skills.
•Strong interpersonal, team participation and communication skills.
•Good customer relations skills.
•The successful candidate must be physically fit and able to perform journeyman duties as required.
•Previous experience in live line work, operating a digger, and aerial device, willingness to participate in community activities; standby experience, computer knowledge, and a valid Interprovincial Red Seal are all considered assets
